Time

Updated: Aug 4, 2020

We all experience this thing called time. Seems simple enough, but what really is time? There's time on a clock, on your watch, on your phone, a shot clock, it's literally everywhere, all the time. (Pardon my puny jokes) Time can show morning or night. One may describe time in past, present or future. Time brings about many unanswered questions. Why can we only move forward and not backward? Why do we start over every day with the same time?

Maybe it's God showing us that as bad as one day may have seemed, there's a fresh start tomorrow. Maybe to live life to the fullest, because we never get the time in the past back. Maybe as humans God knew we just couldn't function if we didn't have a time schedule. Maybe its meant to be a challenge for us all to not live our life based on time, age and numbers but by experiences.

I recently arrived home from a road trip to Orange Beach, Alabama with my family...and am still shaking off the effects of 'beach time.' However, in my short week there, it made me reflect on what time really is. Why do we run around on schedules and worry about deadlines and future projects? It's not like we can change time. All we can do is change what we do with it. I have truly never enjoyed myself more than I did when I was there and disconnected myself from what worries were at home, what work projects were coming when I got back or what I was missing out on. My whole sense of time was reset. To live without time for a period of time :) was just what the doctor ordered to reset my gears. The only worth while time is not set by deadlines or appointments, but rather by what happens in between those times and the moments and memories we create with every minute of every day.

Don't create meaninglessly active time - create worth while time. Be rejuvenated and accomplished by the opportunity to live a full life rather than let the daily grind over rule today's joy.

Don't be afraid to forget about time for a while and enjoy the in between times that are often overlooked because of time frames. We are never too busy to enjoy the time in front of us, happening right now, right before our eyes. In a chaotic world where time is money and nothing is free be sure to remember time is a tool for our well being - not for our destruction.

Don't let time run your life, but rather run your life and let time follow. Live with memories and moments, not dates and hours passed. Don't ever get too busy to sit in silence and reflect. Don't let time get the best of you, breathe and let your concerns about time in a day be sent to the one above us in prayer. And when it comes to doing something you want to, and not doing it because of something silly - just do it. because...

“IN THE END… We only regret the chances we didn’t take, the relationships we were afraid to have, & the decisions we waited too long to make.”

― Lewis Carroll

And we will never get that time back.
